Other Important Information

No Alcohol Policy
There will no alcoholic beverages sold on the Science North site during Canada Day, with the exception of Landings Restaurant for dining patrons. The entire site is designated as alcohol free in recognition of this family event. Alcohol is NOT permitted on-site.

On site parking will be available from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. only. At 4:30 p.m. the parking booth will close, but will remain staffed. Vehicles that leave at that time will not be able to return. Parking passes will only be available for entertainers, event support staff, police and patrons attending a private evening function at Lakehouse Restaurant.

The public is reminded not to park in prohibited areas, boulevards, sidewalks, or obstruct driveways and lanes. Any vehicle found in contravention of these bylaws will be ticketed and/or towed.

From 11:45 a.m. to midnight on July 1 Sudbury Transit busses will shuttle passengers to Science North from the back parking lot at the Southridge Mall (on Regent Street) and from the downtown Terminal and back. The cost for round trip service is $1 per passenger. Busses will be running every 30 minutes from 11:45 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. and then every 15 minutes from after the fireworks (at around 10:45 p.m.) until midnight. Urban and commuter route busses will depart from the downtown terminal at around midnight to take people home from there.

Boat Launch/Ramsey Lake
Watercraft will NOT be able to be retrieved or launched from the boat-launching site (adjacent to the fireworks launch site) from 9:30 p.m. until the completion of the fireworks. This area will be secured by the police. There will be a police presence not just on the Science North site but also on the adjacent Bell Park and Yacht Club sites.

The Marine unit will also be patrolling the waters of Lake Ramsey to ensure that operators are driving responsibly and without alcohol. Once the fireworks begin at 10:15 – 10:30 p.m., the public is being asked to stay away from the beaches adjacent to and at the boat launch to ensure their safety from fireworks fallout. The Marine Unit will be directing boats away from the drop area in the water.

There is no swimming at the Science North beach. This beach is unsupervised and is not maintained for public swimming. In addition, Science North is currently rehabilitating the shoreline to feature a natural marsh habitat that would be damaged by swimming.

Lost Children
Any lost children will be brought to the Science North Main Information Tent located on the marketplace in front of the small snowflake building (the building with Landings Restaurant in it) and will remain there until they are reunited with their parents/guardians. Police and Saint John Ambulance will be made aware of any lost children.

Outdoor Canada Day activities and the fireworks are weather dependent. Please listen to 105.3 EZ Rock or call 705-523-4629 ext. 360 for updates. Please note that the Canada Day Fireworks may be postponed due to wind or weather right up until launch time at approximately 10:15 p.m. If the fireworks can’t be launched on July 1, the alternate launch date will be Monday August 6 at 10:15 p.m.
