SCIENCE NORTH SUMMER SCIENCE CAMPS RETURN TO THE SAULT!

Sault Ste. Marie, ON – Science North, Northern Ontario’s renowned science centre, is offering nine exciting, week-long, science day camps in Sault Ste. Marie for ages four to fourteen this summer. These programs are part of an initiative that will see Science North bring Summer Science Camps to 17 communities across Northern Ontario in 2007.

Science North has been offering summer science camp programs to children for over twenty years. Our programs provide a unique mix of hands-on science and fun for kids. Many camps are offered in French. From Nature Camp to F.I.R.S.T. Robo League, every child is sure to have a great time! Register today because camps fill quickly! Join us on Saturday, June 2nd from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Algoma University College for a Summer Science Camp Open House! It’s your chance to learn more about the camp experience, meet our staff, and find out which camp would best suit your child!

Summer Science Camps for Ages 4 – 5

Kinder Kids
Sault Ste. Marie: July 9-13 (English), July 16-20 (English), July 23-27 (English), July 30-August 3 (English), August 7-10 (French)

Young children are already scientists – they’re exploring the world, trying things out, seeing what happens. Kinder Kids will direct their curiosity to the world around them with hands on activities and daily experiments. Our little scientists will engage in kitchen chemistry, fun physics, and basic biology as they experience the science of everyday life. Both indoor and outdoor activities will be included in this popular camp.

Kinder Nature Camp (Ages 4 – 5)
Sault Ste. Marie: July 9-13 (English), July 16-20 (English), July 23-27 (English), July 30-August 3 (English), August 13-17 (English)

Does your child collect rocks? Leaves? Bugs? Then welcome to Kinder Nature Camp! Campers will explore insects from the bug’s point of view, learn the many ways that food comes to our tables, and how plants affect our lives. Whether indoors or out, your child will learn more about the natural world with new activities each year.

Summer Science Camps for Ages 6 – 8

Discovery Camp (Ages 6-8)
Sault Ste. Marie: July 9-13 (English), July 23-27 (English), July 30-August 3 (English), August 7-10 (French)

Our most popular camp returns with new and fun activities! Each day will feature a different theme including life sciences, engineering, and geology. Whether making hot air balloons or groundwater models, this camp is best suited for those children who like a little bit of everything.

Girls’ Science Camp (Ages 6-8)
Sault Ste. Marie: July 16-20 (English) and August 13-17 (English)

Summer science just for girls! Get your daughter excited about science through fun and challenging science experiments and activities. This year’s topics include forensics, robotics, biology and space. From building rockets to learning about animals in Northern Ontario, this girls’ camp has appeal!

Nature Nuts (ages 6-8)
Sault Ste. Marie: July 9-13 (English), July 16-20 (English), July 23-27 (English), August 7-10 (French)

If your child loved Nature Camp as a ‘youngster’, then this is the camp for them! Nature Nuts campers will learn about ecosystems, such as the connections between landforms and weather, and animal habitats. They’ll also create nature journals of their findings that they can keep.

Gadget Camp (Ages 9-11)

If you know children who like taking things apart to find out how they work, then Gadget Camp is for them! This camp is designed to encourage engineering creativity through a variety of hands-on applications. The week focuses on a major ‘task’ that campers work on throughout the week. Campers will leave with an understanding of basic electronics.

Girls’ Science Camp (Ages 9-11 – English only)
Sault Ste. Marie: July 9-13 or July 23-27

NEW! F.I.R.S.T. Robo League (Ages 9-13 – English only)
Sault Ste. Marie: July 9-13, July 16-20, July 23-27

In this week-long program, participants aged 9-13 will learn to design, construct and program robots. Using the F.I.R.S.T LEGO® League robotics competition model, participants will be given challenges to solve real-world problems using robotics. This program is designed to help kids to discover the fun in science and technology.

Summer Science Camps for Ages 11-14

Science Quest Camp (Ages 11 – 14 – English only)
Sault Ste. Marie: July 30-August 3 or August 6-10

Science Quest Camp provides opportunities for youth to meet, hear from, and interact with scientists and technologists within their own communities. Areas of interest may include robotics, forest ecology, or earth sciences – depending on the research being done in each particular community. It’s a fascinating opportunity for young people to obtain hands-on research skills. Science Quest is supported by the Government of Ontario.

Additional Services:
A “Before & After Care” program for early bird drop-offs (between 7:45 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.) and late pickups (between 4:00 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.) is available for $30/week, plus GST.
