LAST CHANCE TO VISIT THE ENDS OF THE EARTH AT SCIENCE NORTH
SUDBURY âVisitors definitely won’t want to be left out of the cold by missing Science North’s newest and “coolest” exhibit, Ends of the Earth: From Polar Bears to Penguins, which ends Monday, September 3. This 600 square metre (6,000 square foot) travelling exhibition was developed and produced by Science North, Northern Ontario’s popular family attraction. Ends of the Earth takes visitors from one end of our globe to the other to explore the fascinating (and cold!) worlds of the Arctic and Antarctic, through interactive and artifact-based exhibits and multimedia experiences. Ends of the Earth explores the unique nature of the Earthâs polar regions, the current science being undertaken there, and these regions as indicators of climate change on our planet.
Ends of the Earth hits the road in Fall 2007
Ends of the Earth is a travelling exhibition that has already been leased by five other science centres and museums across North America including the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (2007), Fernbank Museum of Natural History in Atlanta (2008), the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia (2008), and the San Diego Museum of Natural History (2011). With its attention to current science, and the universal appeal of polar bears and penguins, Ends of the Earth will attract new visitors wherever it is exhibited and will extend their lengths of stay. Over the five year anticipated run of the Ends of the Earth tour, Science North expects to lease it to 12 venues from North America and possibly around the world.
Two Polar IMAX Adventures
The Science North IMAX Theatre is also featuring two polar adventures that are a great complement to the Ends of the Earth exhibit – Antarctica and Great North. Both films will finish their scheduled shows on September 3rd in conjunction with the closing of the Ends of the Earth: From Polar Bears to Penguins special exhibition.
Explore the history, science, delicate ecology and awesome beauty of Antarctica – the world’s southernmost continent. For the first time in history the mysterious icy expanse of the highest, driest and coldest continent has been captured in the giant screen format. The film takes viewers to the home of penguins, seals and the other exotic life forms and also focuses on the activities conducted at many scientific research stations established by countries from around the world.
Experience the Far North as never before in the giant screen IMAX film Great North: the stories and music of the people, the Inuit and the Saami, who live on the roof of the world in Canada and Sweden. At the heart of their lives are the caribou and the reindeer whose remarkable journey reveals the majestic Arctic landscape.
Antarctica and Great North are sponsored locally by the Travelway Inn. Media sponsors are CTV, The Sudbury Star, Q92 and 105.3 EZ Rock. Showtimes and tickets are available on-line at sciencenorth.ca/imax, by phone at 705-523-IMAX, or at the door.
